Mexican Spotted Owl- Endangered Species Series

The Mexican Spotted Owl, due to habitat loss, is considered to be a threatened population in Texas. These beautiful birds like very particular trees to nest in, such as the Ponderosa Pine illustrated in my piece, and are very vulnerable to deforestation and habitat destruction.

Making the Piece

When I want a certain effect, I will sometimes take unorthodox methods to achieve it, like singeing the edges of wet paper with fire to get smoky edges.
